Development Director

 

The American Association for Palestinian Equal Rights (AAPER) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate the American public about the history and human rights of the Palestinian people, and the role of the United States in the Middle East.  AAPER's website is www.americansforpalestine.org.


AAPER seeks a Development Director for its Washington, DC office.   The Development Director will be responsible for leading the implementation of AAPER's fundraising strategy and activities.  The ideal candidate will be an outgoing, energetic, hard working, highly-motivated, detail- and results-oriented self-starter capable of working individually and within a team.  The Development Director's responsibilities will include:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning

  • Leading development and implementation of AAPER's fundraising strategy (with emphasis on major donor solicitation, foundation grant-seeking, special events and planned giving) and calendar
  • Working with staff to prepare project-based funding proposals
  • Developing a planned giving program and materials
  • Recording, monitoring, assessing and reporting fundraising results

Fundraising

  • Maintaining and cultivating relationships with existing donors
  • Researching, identifying, and developing relationships with prospective donors
  • Developing and supervising donor appreciation practices
  • Maintaining a database of donors and potential donors
  • Planning, executing and representing AAPER at fundraising events
  • Researching and identifying grant opportunities
  • Preparing, and overseeing preparation of, grant applications
  • Maintaining grants calendar and records

Communication
  • Overseeing preparation of marketing materials, including annual reports and presentations
  • Managing fundraising communications, including direct mail appeals, website appeals and acknowledgement letters

Management

  • Managing a team of staff, interns and volunteers
  • Supporting board member solicitation efforts, including identifying new board candidates and recommending fundraising practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years of corporate (preferably sales and/or marketing) experience or nonprofit development experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree desirable
  • Ability to manage staff and interns
  • Knowledge of the Palestinian issue and U.S. policy toward Palestine
  • Commitment to Palestinian human rights and an equitable U.S. policy toward Palestine
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including an outgoing personality
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to travel periodically
COMPENSATION: Competitive salary (commensurate with experience), health and dental insurance and four (4) weeks annual vacation.
