Public Education & Outreach Associate


The American Association for Palestinian Equal Rights (AAPER) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate the American public about the history and human rights of the Palestinian people, and the role of the United States in the Middle East.  AAPER's website is www.americansforpalestine.org.


AAPER seeks a Public Education & Outreach Associate for its Washington, DC office.  The Public Education & Outreach Associate will be responsible for building a base of Americans supportive of Palestinian human rights and an equitable U.S. policy toward Palestine through effective public education and outreach. The ideal candidate will be an outgoing, energetic, hard working, highly-motivated, detail- and results-oriented self-starter capable of working individually and within a team.  The Public Education & Outreach Associate's responsibilities will include:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Building partnerships with organizations around the United States that support an equitable U.S. policy toward Palestine
  • Recruiting, training and managing a network of AAPER organizers who educate their fellow citizens and elected representatives about Palestine
  • Recruiting, training and helping to organize events for members of AAPER's Palestine Speakers Bureau
  • Organizing educational events about Palestine, including house parties, speaking events and tours, film showings and cultural events
  • Recruiting Americans to join AAPER's Five for Palestine Campaign
  • Disseminating AAPER brochures, postcards and other educational materials to volunteers across the United States
  • Maintaining and managing database of contacts

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two or more years of corporate, governmental or nonprofit experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
  • Strong grassroots organizing and event planning abilities
  • Ability to manage staff and interns
  • Knowledge of the Palestinian issue and U.S. policy toward Palestine
  • Commitment to Palestinian human rights and an equitable U.S. policy toward Palestine
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including an outgoing personality
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills

COMPENSATION: Competitive salary (commensurate with experience), health and dental insurance and four (4) weeks annual vacation.
